FIRST AID TRAINING IN THE WORKPLACE, SCHOOLS, NURSERIES  

The Safety Centre offers HSE Approved First Aid Training, delivered by experienced trainers, the majority being qualified paramedics. 

Employers have a legal obligation to provide adequate and appropriate first aid provision for their workplace under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and Approved Code of Practice (ACOP L74 Second Edition). 

Employers should carry out their own risk assessment to establish what level of first aid cover they require at each location. The following guidance will help you :

1 Day Emergency First Aid at Work (HSE approved)

This course is ideal for smaller workplaces that present few health and safety risks.


1 Day Emergency First Aid at Work

 

Syllabus

Role of the First Aider including

  • Health and Safety (First Aid) Regs
  • Incident Management
  • Priorities of First Aid

Treatment of Unconscious Person

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

First Aid treatment for a casualty who is

  • Wounded and bleeding
  • Suffering from shock
  • Choking
  • Having a suspected heart attack/seizure
  • Suffering from a minor injury (including small cuts and bruises, minor burns and scalds )

Cost:

  • £70 plus vat per person on our premises (includes lunch)
  • £60 plus vat per person on your premises * (subject to min of 6)

 *a suitable room large enough to accommodate students lying on the floor for practical sessions must be provided.

 

Each candidate will receive a certificate of attendance (valid for three years) and a relevant First Aid reference book

This course is ideal for teachers and school support staff


The syllabus covers:-
 
Treatment of unconscious casualty
 
Incident management
 
Resuscitation – age appropriate
 
Burns and scalds
 
Wounds and bleeding
 
Treatment of Anaphylaxis (including EpiPen)
 
Cost:
 
£60 per person plus vat on your premises*(min of 6) we will require a suitable room large enough to
accommodate candidates lying on the floor for practical sessions.
 
Each candidate will receive a certificate of attendance
 

3 Day First Aid at Work (HSE approved)

This course covers the practical skills needed by a first aider in the modern workplace. It will give you the knowledge and confidence to deal with a first aid emergency in the workplace.

After completing a final assessment successful candidates will receive an HSE Approved certificate valid for three years as well as a relevant First Aid reference book.

2 Day Refresher for First Aid at Work (HSE approved)

This course is designed for re-qualifying First Aid at Work Certificate holders (a current First Aid at Work Certificate is a mandatory requirement for this course)

We can offer this requalification to all First Aiders holding the full First Aid at Work certificate regardless of where they first trained, as long as their certificate is current or within 28 days of expiry.

3 Hour Annual Refresher

 
HSE strongly recommend that candidates attend an annual refresher to keep their skills current.
 
This course is for candidates who hold a current first Aid at Work (3 day or 1 day) certificate and wish to
update their skills between requalification courses.
 
The course will update all of the skills already learnt, as well as provide practical sessions designed to
build on current expertise by using simulated scenarios.
 
Cost:
 
£35 plus vat per person on our premises
 
£30 plus vat per person on your premises (min of 6) a suitable room is required large enough to
accommodate candidates lying on the floor for practical sessions.

12 Hour Paediatric First Aid -meets requirements of EYFS framework, OFSTED requirements for childminders and DfE Approved Carers Scheme for Nannies

 

The course focuses on emergency scenarios that could be faced by professionals including teachers, nannies, childminders and playgroup leaders.

  • Record keeping

Treatment of Unconscious Person

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on adult, child and baby

First Aid treatment for:

  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Shock and anaphylactic shock
  • Choking (adult, child and baby)
  • Asthma and diabetic emergencies
  • Head injuries
  • Seizures
  • Burns and scalds
  • Sprains, strains and fractures
  • Poisoning, bites and stings
  • Foreign objects
  • Childhood conditions (e.g. measles, meningitis, croup)

Cost:

  • £80 plus vat per person on our premises
  • £70 plus vat per person on your premises* (subject to a min of 6)

*A suitable room must be provided which allows for delegates to be lying on the floor for practical sessions.

 

Each candidate will receive a certificate of attendance (valid for 3 years) as well as a relevant First Aid reference book.

4 hour Automatic External Defibrilation

This course teaches the essential skills required by an AED operator and gives students the confidence to know what to do in this kind of emergency. No previous first aid knowledge is necessary to attend an AED course.

The Safety Centre opened in 1994 as a partnership-based community safety project involving Thames Valley Police, Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service, health authorities, local government, other statutory organisations and the private sector. The centre is not centrally funded and as such relies heavily on donations and sponsorship.
